The Los Angeles-based film-maker company, Vimeo, announced on Monday that it would open an online virtual volunteer opportunity that allows filmmakers to find volunteers who can help them make their film in the Los Angeles area.

The company said it expects to hire 5,000 people this year to fill the role of film-making supervisors and crew members.

The opportunity is offered to people aged 18 and over who have completed a Bachelor’s degree or higher in the areas of visual effects, costume design, makeup, makeup artists, animation, production design, sound, and post production.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Vimeo on this exciting opportunity,” said Scott Schumacher, CEO of Vimeo.

“The Alamo’s unique setting and unparalleled culture are key to our ability to connect with audiences across the globe, and the Alhambra has been a destination for a number of our films, including the Oscar-winning “The Hurt Locker.””

As film makers and filmmakers, we know firsthand the incredible challenges that go into producing and shooting a film, and this is a chance for us to be part of the local film industry in the most exciting time of the year,” Schumachers said.

The Alhambro Theatre is in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.

It opened in May of 2013 as a film festival that has hosted numerous screenings and a film-themed party every year since.
